AUTOMOTIVE HVAC CAN COMMUNICATIONS AND DIAGNOSTICS

  • CUSTOMER:
  • It is the policy of OMNI Engineering Services Inc. not to disclose customer names and/or proprietary details of projects without the client’s release to do so.

  • PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:
  • Integrate 3rd-party CAN system drivers, and create a diagnostic interface using Keyword Protocol 2000 (KWP2K) to the HVAC controller per end-customer ("big-3" auto manufacturer) requirements.

  • DESIGN APPROACH:
  • An eight-bit CMOS micro controller forms the heart of this embedded system. The project's software was developed using the "C" language. Services provided via the KWP2K protocol were implemented as separate "C" modules for a highly de-coupled, flexible and robust system.

  • PROJECT RESULTS:
  • Development is on going, as the product is currently at a pre-production level. However, through multiple prototype and pre-production releases, the required level of functionality at each release was achieve with a very low defect rate. Furthermore, the implementation level of the CAN subsystem for this product was ahead of most of the other vehicle ECU suppliers.

  • PROJECT BUILDING BLOCKS:
  • ST Microelectronics ST9 Micro controller
ST Development Tool chain for the ST9 and St Emulator
    Motorola 68HC08 Micro Controller
    COSMIC ‘HC08 Tool chain
    Motorola MMDS Emulator
    Vector CANalyzer and CANoe
Vector CAN drivers for the ST9 and ‘HC08
