Assume software design responsibilities of an automated tester used to verify force and position of a multi-position switch. The test fixture is controlled by a "Galil" multiple axis motion controller. In addition to controlling the position, velocity, and acceleration of the two servo motors, the "Galil" also used pneumatics to control the "Z" axis of one of the motors.

The software controlling the test fixture, needed to be modified to reduce the test time and gather process information which would be used in a SPC environment to ensure the quality of the product under test.

Test time was reduced by 53% and process information provided the means to determine the design and process limits.
