2 ZONE PROGRAMMABLE PROCESS CONTROLLER

  • CUSTOMER:
  • It is the policy of OMNI Engineering Services Inc. not to disclose customer names and/or proprietary details of projects without the client’s release to do so.

  • PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:
  • Design a system to control temperature with respect to time in 2 zones. System to be programmable with respect to time, temperature, temperature limits and pressure limits. System to monitor and display temperature for up to ten thermocouples per zone, time, pressure, alarm status , and system status. System to use a custom keyboard and LCD graphic screen. system to be able to autotune the PID algorithm, print results of process on serial printer, and print graph of process on graphic screen. System to be able to use any reasonable source of AC power, foreign or domestic.

  • DESIGN APPROACH:
  • The system was designed around a single board computer with built in digital and analog I/O capabilities. The project software was done in "C". This software development included extensive control algorithm development, graphic screen development, key handler, and temperature profiling routines. A multiple voltage switching power supply was selected for the project along with a serial printer. An intelligent display module by Seiko was selected as the graphic user interface.

  • PROJECT RESULTS:
  • The system development has resulted in sales world wide. The system development has allowed for extensive increases in capabilities at an overall system cost reduction.
