MOTOR EXERCISING LIFE TESTER

  • CUSTOMER:
  • It is the policy of OMNI Engineering Services Inc. not to disclose customer names and/or proprietary details of projects without the client’s release to do so.

  • PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:
  • Control software necessary to control eight stepper motors while being temperature cycled. Software to determine failure via torque measurement and data log the results (torque, fail date, fail time). User interface to be contained in a Windows environment and be mouse driven. Software to control the following stepper motors parameters: direction, current, and start/stop. Motors to be sequenced on a continuous basis and tested on a timed basis.

  • DESIGN APPROACH:
  • The software was developed using C++. It was mouse driven and used pull-down windows and menus to allow the user to select automatic operation or manual operation. In the manual mode, the user can select and operate individual motors. Data was logged to a file as well as being accessible to the user via the screen of the PC.

  • PROJECT RESULTS:
  • The successful completion of this life testing project allowed the customer to gather necessary data on proper motor selection as well as gathering data on stepper motor drive circuits.

  • PROJECT BUILDING BLOCKS:
  • 486DX PC
    Keithly Metrabyte interface boards
    C++
    Windows 3.1
