MULTIBOARD MICROCOMPUTER BASED PRODUCT TESTER

  • CUSTOMER:
  • It is the policy of OMNI Engineering Services Inc. not to disclose customer names and/or proprietary details of projects without the client’s release to do so.

  • PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:
  • Accomplish functional testing of eight micro-based PC board products. The tester to simulate the function of the board missing from the system as the board under test is being exercised.

  • DESIGN APPROACH:
  • A STD bus rack mount computer was selected because of the large amount of I/O available at a reasonable cost. The system required 256 digital I/O, 16 analog inputs, 8 analog outputs, and 8 counter timers. The test program was written in ANSI C. An interrupt driven serial communications scheme was developed to communicate to those boards which had integral serial communications. The total number of STD boards in the system was eleven. The completed test program can reside in RAM or can be ROMed into the system. A test language was developed which allows ease of implementation to test sequences.

  • PROJECT RESULTS:
  • This multiboard product tester successfully exercised the board under test while simulating the boards missing from the system. When used in the single step mode or debug mode, it is a valuable tool for debugging and repairing failed product. The effective use of this tool has resulted in the fabrication of an additional unit.
